From our Southeast Asia Collection, a large and well-carved image of the Burmese monk Mogallana, 19th century. The carving is rendered in gilding and black lacquer over carved hardwood, with shell inserts for the eyes, typical for the better quality Mandalay era pieces. Overall, the piece is very nicely executed with good expressiveness and presence, making it very suitable for part of a shrine ensemble, or simply for display as a centerpiece on its own...

Serene Bronze Buddha subduing Mara, SHAN STATE Burma, 18/19th Century, very nice smooth patina, seated on a high-stepped throne, which tapers off towards the top and is a noteworthy characteristic of Shan artists, very good condition, no restorations, Size: H. 15.5 cm x W. 7.5 cm x D, 5 cm.

From our Southeast Asia Collection, a very good 18th century gilded bronze Thai buddha, seated in bhumisparsa mudra, gilded lacquer over bronze with interesting glass inserts to the base, and all the indicia of legitimate age and genuineness.

Size and Condition: 13 inches tall, 8 1/2 inches wide. There is obvious age-related wear to the gilding and some lacquer has flaked off in a few random places, but in small amounts...

An Indonesian Mask carved in the form of a monkey. The mask is carved into two separate section, one is the top area of the head and the bottom is the jaw area. The mask is attached with a head covering made from strips of leather. The islands of Java and Bali are the two key regions that have the art of mask dancing often depicting religious stories. Splendid Lanna Thai Wooden Buddha with original gilding seated on an elaborately decorated throne. Very serene/calm expression. The Buddha is seated in the Vajrasana position with the right hand in the gesture of touching the Earth (bhumisparsa mudra) and the left hand rests in the gesture of meditation (dhyana mudra). Fine and rare example of Northern Thai Buddhist art which displays an elegant smartness and is well proportioned. Excellent condition and beautiful patina, no restorations...
