Antique Japanese tetsubin (kettle for heating water for tea) made of cast iron and decorated with a dragon in swirling clouds. The highly raised design depicts a dragon curling itself around the body of the pot. The clouds over hang in a ledge above the base. There is a large raised cartouche on the back underneath this ridge. The lid is made of bronze.

Delightful Japanese antique tetsubin (tea pot), made of cast iron. The handle is beautifully shaped. The lid is of bronze with a flower bud as the lid handle. Antique Japanese bronze vase molded with a pair of phoenixes in flight. Signed on the bottom. Also called hou-ou, the pair of mythical birds together are often symbols of fidelity but also represent fire, sun and justice. When used in reference to the imperial household, the phoenix represents the empress.

Antique Japanese bronze usubata (container for ikebana flower arranging). Charming bronze frog with bumpy skin except for his belly and under chin which are smooth. Out of his mouth comes the stem of the water container portion of the usubata. Inside the inverted conical container is a rounded form with ridges for holding flowers and branches in place...

With short neck and ovoid body, this beautiful Japanese copper ‘do-chu' vase is marked 'Hisayoshi' on the side. The brilliant rich color of this type of ware is achieved by adding smoked straw during firing and often deepens over time...

A very attractive and fine cast iron incense container (kogo) for use in tea ceremony decorated with a motif from the Ten Ox-herding Pictures of Zen Buddhism. Inside covered in gold. Signed by Suzuki Morihisa (1920–1981), a 14th generation of cast iron-makers from Morioka who later taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tokyo. A frequent exhibitor at the Nitten. With original signed kiri-tomobako and artist's information paper. Showa period ca. 1960. H 3 cm, D 7,2. Condition: Perfect.

Here we offer another Japanese tea kettle from our collection. It is a cast iron relief tetsubin from the late Edo Period. It is signed by the unknown artist. It has a tasteful design.

Inside is some rust but no water leak. Great atmosphere. A real antique tetsubin.

Old rodan and gotoku for Japanese tea room, heavy item made with beautiful craftmanship from the Meiji period (1868-1912). The rodan is placed in the cut out hole of the tea room. Inside the rodan, the gotoku stand is placed (shown upside down in our photos) in ash for kama or kettle.

The dimensions of copper rodan: 16"w x 16"w at the top (the rim is 2.5" wide) and 10" in heigth. The bottom is 11 1/2" x 11 1/2". Old iron stand, gotoku is , 9 3/4" across and 6 inches tall.

Cast bronze candlestick. Finely chiseled decoration of tao tie masks and stylized cicadas in the archaic Chinese style. The cast is perfect without the slightest defect. The carving is precise without error. The object has a very elegant atypical shape. Below a mark of 6 characters must announce the name of the artist who is necessarily excellent. It is cast in high relief with the image of writings and a landscape.

This fine kettle bears the body-mark “Kibundo zo” and a remnant of the square seal mark of Kibundo on the bottom.
