The lantern section is similar in style to a hanging lantern with it's curling warabite corner roof and pointed finial over a hollow hexagonal light box. The lantern section is different than most ishidoro in that it's roof is rounded and does not have curling corners but instead is more mushroom like in form. Antique Japanese large onigawara roof tile end cap. This beautiful tile was made in the toukigawara method with a hollow interior. It once graced the roof of a large building, perhaps a temple or an important house. It has a raised Tomoe crest (mon) in the center which is surrounded by wonderfully three dimensional swirling clouds and topped with it's own roof. Meiji Period (1868-1912). Semi round low flat fruit basket made of split woven bamboo intertwined wisteria branch. Warm red and dark tones, over all in very good condition. Can be used as a beautiful display for fruit or other items. Unusual shape with finely wooden lip with fine bamboo strips. Undeside reveals geometric pattern with a center diamond. Unsigned.
