Antique Japanese netsuke in the form of a fudog. Carved of boxwood, the fudog leans on a ball. With eyes wide and mouth open, his mane flows down his back. He curls his body around the ball, gripping it in three paws while balancing on his back leg. Age and use have added an appealing smooth quality of the netsuke.

A brush, ink stick letter knife and ink stone are set into a compartment inside this flattened bamboo shape carved from Zitan wood with a poem engraved into the lid signed on the back side Hokkyo Sessai and enclosed in a wooden box. This is a finely hand-carved netsuke in Kurogaki (Black Persimmon) wood of a Lotus Seed Pod, made as a Karakuri or 'trick' Netsuke in that the seeds rattle and peep out of the seed holes. Japanese carved Wood No Mask Okame Netsuke, Ca. 1920, Meiji, 1 1/2" high, 1 1/4" wide, 5/8" deep, round dot natural wood grain dimples on both chubby cheeks and wrinkles on forehead and face, the condition is good, shows old patina.

An antique Japanese lacquer Inro with images of persimmons on a gold flecked background. The Inro has five compartments, a boxwood netsuke carved in the shape of a persimmon and a metal ojime incised with floral and geometric designs. The inside compartments are covered with dense nashiji lacquer (fine gold flecks). Exceptional.
