Hishaku-gata style yatate in bronze with brown patina. The hishaku-gata style was developed at the beginning of the Edo era, in the 17th century. It is characterized by an ink compartment (sumi tsubo) in the shape of a ladle. Here it is decorated with a frog.
The frog (kaeru) is associated with luck and wealth. Kaeru means both "frog" and "coming home" in Japanese. This extension of meaning is due to the ability of the frog to return each year to the pond of its birth...

Box in gilded bronze, in the shape of two superimposed fans finely decorated with lake landscapes, flowers and birds. The shape is complicated and rare. Inside very beautiful gilding, carved with birds and plants. The black patinated underside bearing the workshop's signature in gold. The box rests on three short legs. A catfish in bronze by Kome Jiichi enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating from the mid Showa era. The slippery creature is 30.5 cm (12 inches) long and in excellent condition, signed with an incised signature beneath. Kome Jiichi (1896-1985) He was born in Toyama prefecture, on of the traditional homes of bronze work in Japan. He graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts studied under Takamura Kouun. A small Japanese square bronze table screen with a flying crane in openwork, raised and supported on the backs of two kirins, a mythical beast in Chinese mythology.
