A sculptural form covered in iconic Iga Kiln effects by Toyosaki Nobuhiko of the Korin-kiln in Mie prefecture enclosed in the original signed wooden box. On the convex shoulder, green glass pools crystalline, while a smattering of goma (sesame) ash clings to the bulbous side, gray charring and plenty of flying ash to fill in the blanks. This child with a pleasant face happily rides his toy horse, the horse looking just as pleased. The entirety is a porcelain sake server from the Saga region on the southern Island of Kyushu, home to Imari, Hirado and other porcelain ware. A bung of black persimmon wood has been added as a lid in the shape of a Chinese hat. It is 21 x 12 x 21 cm (8 x 4-3/4 x 8 inches) and in overall fine, original condition, dating from the 19th century.

The ultimate in crusty, a radical charred vessel by Kanzaki Shiho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaire. Two sides are completely blackened and coated in Koge-charring. Opposite the darkness gives way to tombo-no-me (Dragonfly eyes) with thick encrustations around the base, a stream of yellow cascading down one clefted face. Wide gold bands mend the broken walls of this unearthed pottery bowl dating from the Kamakura period covered in earthy green glaze from the Seto region from around modern day Nagoya. It is 16.3 (almost 6-1/2 inches) diameter and ready to use. It comes enclosed in a modern collectors wooden box titled Horinote Hirachawan (Excavated Wide Tea Bowl)...

Antique Japanese ceramic figure of the famous monk, Bodhidharma. Well known for his intense demeanor, Bodhidharma (Daruma) stands with fly wisk in hand, his signature red monk's robes draped around him. Daruma figures represent perseverance and are believed to bring good fortune. This figure is decorated with polychromatic glazes and painted details.

A Karatsu ware tea bowl with silver mending (gin-tsugi) which is mending technique, broken pieces are put together with urushi and then silver powder is applied. It has simple painting which is called E-karatsu. Karatsu ware has been produced in the east part of Saga and the north part of Nagasaki prefectures in Kyushu since late 16th century. This one is made of four fragments of Karatsu-yaki (yobi-tsugi). Probably 17th century. Diameter:13cm, H:4 to 5cm

A large deep bowl decorated in abstract underglaze blue imagery by Shibata Ryozo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sometsuke Hachi and dating circa 1995. It is 35 cm (14 inches) diameter, 25.5 cm (10 inches) deep and in excellent condition.
Shibata Ryozo (b. 1952) completed advanced studies at the Kyoto Municipal University of Arts in 1978 (his work was purchased by the university the previous year for its permanent collection)...

Mastery of the Oribe genre is apparent in this Chawan by Yamada Kazu which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kuro-Oribe Chawan. It is 13 cm (just over 5 inches) diameter, 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Yamada Kazu was born in Tokoname city in 1954, one of Japans ancient kiln areas, into a line of potters. He would have been influenced early on by his father, Yamada Kenkichi and uncle living National Treasure Yamada Jozan...
