This an exquisite Satsuma tea jar from Ryozan. The gold work and painting are examples of his best workmanship. The piece is in excellent condition but the original lid is missing and this lid has a repair. It was used to help this great piece display better. Maybe some one out there has a better lid for the great piece. It stands 6 inches tall.

This is a wonderful Meiji Era Satsuma tray from Seikozan. The detail is outstanding but the condition is even better. The condition of this piece is pristine and like new or the day it left the workshop. In fact, this piece is the finest preserved example of Meiji era Satsuma we have ever had. Ironically, we found a small factory repair to one of the corners. We ran tests and it is absolutely a gold covered Seikozan factory repair (See last image).

A healthy round-faced, plump figured, seated boy wearing a typical high hat of boy doll figures of the period. He is also wearing a checker-patterned loincloth. His hands are positioned under his chin, where he is holding his hat ties together. The stoneware was formed with a mold (you can see the faint molding line on both sides and underneath--it is not a crack.) The surface has a natural patina from age. Age: Late 19th Century. Truly beautiful Japanese antique small earthenware jar from the Shigaraki kiln. Made from the red clay of Lake Biwa, this jar is covered with a thick mineral glaze which has dripped and pooled. It has a lip which has been dimpled for pouring and a wonderful indented area that has been blackened in the firing process. The ash glaze on the lip and on the inside is a lovely green color...

Japanese studio ware ceramic figure of the immortal, Gama Sennin. Based on the Chinese 10th century alchemist, Liu Hai, Gama Sennin is often depicted in relation to the lucky 3-legged money-toad. Gama Sennin can assume the form of a toad and can change his skin to appear young again. In this depiction of the much loved immortal, he sits on a rocky outcropping and hold in one hand a peach, in the other a small toad...
