A black glazed conical shape tea-bowl, decorated with paper-cut design of two phoenix on flight, exterior with tortoise-shell effect. Unglazed base with short foot rim. Southern-Song dynasty Jizhou ware. Condition is perfect. Diameter: 12.6cm and High: 6.4cm.

The artist has represented a standing character, leaning on a broom, with a blissful and amused expression on his face turned towards the sky. This is probably Shih Te, a mischievous young Chinese monk who, according to legend, lived in the Kwo-Ching-Su temple in China during the Tang period around the 9th century. He is always represented with a broom because he was employed in the maintenance of the temple...

Flattened Circular flask form, with slightly flared neck, with stylized chi-longs crawling up on the sides, having an oval raised footing with a high indentation underneath. Wide, slightly concave mouth. Its symmetrical formal shape tells us that it was probably made to represent an antique flask. This is a very fine, flattened, rounded square form Snuff Bottle with a straight round neck, rounded sloping shoulders, resting on a raised oval footing. Made of Black Jade. The bottle is well hollowed, decorated with slight high relief carving of a Peony flower (a symbol of beauty in China) and branch on each side. It has a very smooth and lustrous surface. It comes with a light brown and black agate stopper with spoon...

Black lacquer box finely incised with motifs of birds, dormice, vines and flowers, the golden designs stand out pleasantly against the black background with discretion. This Chinese lacquer technique called Ch'iang Chin is very old, it consists of making slight incisions on the dry lacquer then filling them with gold powder mixed with fresh lacquer for good, lasting adhesion...

A beautiful and very functional pair of black lacquer wooden cabinets with detailed court scenes. The cabinets can be stacked as pictured or positioned separately and perhaps placed under windows. From our Shipwreck Ceramics Collection, a charming blanc de chine Guanyin from the Vung Tau Shipwreck circa 1690-1700 (Kangxi Period), one of only 30 ever recovered from this wreck and in this sense quite rare. The Vung Tau Shipwreck refers to a cargo ship of Chinese ceramics that sank in the waters of the Can Doa Islands, nearby to Vung Tao Vietnam between 1690 and 1700, where it had briefly stopped to re-supply on its way to Batavia (Jakarta Indonesia)...

An exceptionally small Japanese tea or wine bowl and saucer, Edo period c 1710. Blood and milk iron red and gilt decoration of butterflies, flowers and swirls. Height of cup 1 ¼ " / 3.2 cm Diameter 2 ¼ "/ 5.5 cm, of saucer 3 ½ "/ 8.8 cm. Condition: repair to the saucer, the cup with a nick to the inner side of the foot rim (c.f. pics).

Saucer bowl with under-glaze blue decoration of a bird on a flowering twig, silky chocolate-coloured glaze to the outside. Yongzheng or early Qianlong period, first part of the 18th century. Diameter "5¼/ 13 cm. Condition: glaze bubble and a hairline (cf. pics).

A Ming dynasty 16th century Hongzhi period blue and white bowl, decorated with a lovely painted of a pair Mandarin ducks swimming among Lotus pond. Condition is very good, with no any crack and free from any restoration, excepted minor kiln material adhere to the interior rim and tiny flake to inside the foot rim. Diameter: 14,6 cm.
