Each panel is 46.6 inches (118.5 cm) long by 38 inches (96.5 cm) wide. The kesi is 21.2 inches (54 cm) long by 18.1 inches (46 cm) wide.

They are in good condition with no repairs or discoloration, except foxing, small stains, and a minor tear (as seen in the photos).

With background only, we assume this must either mean it was for a student candidate not yet with rank or perhaps awaiting the addition of rank insignia (if it was appropriate to embroider or stitch onto a kesi badge.) We have included photos of the front and of the back with lining lifted to reveal the kesi technique including varied gold metallic thread. Condition is fair to good...

Chinese late Qing dynasty red silk temple hanging or altar frontispiece densely embroidered in metallic-couched and polychrome silk threads with the “Three Star Gods” and other symbols of good fortune, longevity, and happiness. A horizontal panel across the top is embroidered in gold with four padded characters. Reading from right to left, these read “fu (happiness), lu (wealth), shou (longevity), and xi (blessings).” Each character corresponds with one of the figures below...

Up for sale is a very large antique chinese red silk tapestry brocaded with polychrome peonies & vines, and gold thread shadows, Qianlong period. The panel is made up of 2 pieces from a yardage, each about 27" wide, and that explains why there is a seam in the middle; the panel backed with light yellow silk.
