Fine Late 19th Century Bunraku Puppet of a Sambaso Dancer. This rare Bunraku puppet is operated by three Puppet Masters, who make it come to life to present a magical theatrical experience. He is carved of wood and covered with Gofun. He wears a beautiful Robin egg blue and Saffron orange robes. His head is adorned with a silver and black hat featuring a rising sun. Extremely Rare Edo Period Isho Ningyo Pulling a Wagon with a Crane. Early 18th Century Ningyo like this very rarely come up for sale. This Isho Ningyo is special, as it resembles a Karakui (mechanical) Ningyo. This important Ningyo has a classic face with painted features, sumptuous embroidered textiles, and is pulling a cart that has a crane inside. It stands on a lacquered base. A genuine old facetted amber glass snuff bottle. 19th century.

Approximately 2.5/8 inches (6.7 cm) high. There is a small chip to the glass on the edge of the lower facet on one side; just near to it is a minuscule chip, both small enough to polish out. Light wear from use. Please study the photographs.

A CHINESE BAMBOO BRUSH POT, BITONG, 19TH CENTURY.

The brushpot is large and thick-walled, certainly a bitong to be used rather than made as a souvenir. It is deeply carved with a depiction of the seven sages in the bamboo grove, a popular subject that appears on bamboo brushpots dating back to the Ming dynasty. It has many age cracks though none look recent to me and the pot looks stable. I have conservatively dated it to the 19th century though it could be earlier.
