$2200 Very Rare/Fine Pair of Korean Wood Carved Turtle Candle Stands-19th C.:
Korea, Joseon dynasty, 18th/19th century.
The one solid wood carved 3 composed of three parts:
A square base, a large turtle, and a large lotus bud for candle holder
Realistically incised and carved and painted in lacquered pigments.
It is in good condition with some cracks due to age (see photos),
It measures 16cm h. x 18cm long x 11cm w.

We recently acquired a pair, this one and Stock #1589. Kkokdu were guardian figures that were believed to accompany the deceased in the afterlife. They were burned after the funeral, so very few have survived. There are a couple of kkokdu museums in Korea that have acquired just about all of the remaining kkokdu...

A good and large/heavy hard wood hand carved wedding duck, to set up with two parts, a head and body, traditionally used in wedding ceremonies, with old patina overall, its bottom square carved for holding.
It’s in very good condition with old dark-brown patina due to its age,it measures 18.5cm high. and 32cm length, weight: 2.74 lbs.

P.O.R. Sculpture of a bald headed man with a serene face, sitting while holding a small cymbal and drum stick in his hands. The cymbal and stick are connected to each other by a cord. The man dressed in Korean garment, as it is worn by Boddhisatva. Lime stone? Inside hollowed out. Korea, Choseon period, 18th century.
Height inches 14.2 inches (36 cm). Excellent condition. Some pits in the surface, some traces of former pigmentation... Shin Eun Sook Marble Sculpture, Mandala.
