Standing Jizo Bosatsu sculpted from a gray-hued sandstone, a hoju (sacred jewel) balanced atop the covered hands. Mid-Edo Period ca. 1750. Softening of the lines and contours overall. Good lichen accumulation.

Height: 36.4 cm
Diameter of circular base: 13.5 cm.

A rotund Jizo with rectilinear flair, impossibly tiny feet, and endearing expressivity.

Seated Jizo Bosatsu sculpted from granite, the tiny, centrally placed hands holding a sacred jewel. Mid-Edo Period ca. 1725. Very minor old loss. Lichen accumulation overall, including a distinctive rust-colored strain.

An imaginatively stylized Jizo stone, with a rarely seen rust-colored lichen feeding apparently on oxidized iron unevenly deposited throughout the granite. A charming piece.

This is a very elegant and high quality Japanese silk obi from Nishijin, Kyoto. The dimensions of the obi are 12 1/4" wide and 160 3/4" (13'4 3/4") long. About two-thirds of the front (104" long) is woven with gold. There are 2 full designs of an ox-cart with pine branches in the center area – only one of them is shown in the first photo – the other one is on the other side...

Japanese Silver Mounts & Wires Cloisonne Box with Flower and Butterfly, Meiji (1868-1912)

It is 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) tall by 5.7 inches (14.5 cm) long and 4 inches (10.1 cm) wide. It is 1.9 Lb.

It is in good condition with very small chips and loss of enamel at the corners and a very small old manufacture repair at the side (as seen in the photos).

A similar box was sold at the Christie's Avo Kirikorian collection on February 19, 2007, lot 122 for CHF 20,400 ($16,571 USD)...
