Housed in a tomobako, wrapped in Shanghai newspaper dated 1921, and with an original note stating they were purchased in Nikko in 1921. Circa 1900 to early 20th century. 5 1/2", 5”, and 4 1/2" diameter. The largest with a small rim chip and two tiny chips to the foot...

Japanese antique lacquer inro with five reserve scenes of landscapes and implements most likely representing the Seven Lucky Gods. The inro has rounded edges and is almost oval in form. It has five sections (four compartments) and is lacquered entirely in very fine gold nashiji. There are 3 scenes on one side and 2 on the other in raised maki-e lacquer. The implements are displayed as if accidentally left behind...

This is an exceptional pen holder in black urushi lacquer (roiro) decorated with a branch of peonies and a bird in flight. The decoration is treated with gold powder of several shades of tones, of different thicknesses (hiramakie and takamakie) and in cinnabar red and green lacquer. Some details are in silver powder. Small squares of gold mosaic and mother-of-pearl (kirikane) are sprinkled on the leaves. The articulated metal part is gilded with fine gold...

Japanese antique eight lobed dish with gold and shell inlaid lacquer (shibayama). Each lobe is decorated in makie, the flora and fauna of the four seasons with archaic designs set in between. The central area of the dish is depicting a female figure holding a lotus with a child attendant holding a bouquet of lotuses...

Daikoku‘s hammer, symbol of power and abundance, capable of granting wishes, made of lacquer and embellished with gold leaf. The decorative motifs on the hammer are floral and geometric and create a harmonious design. Period: Meiji end of 19th century. Dimensions: 16.5 x 7.5 x 7 cm. Conservation status: Excellent condition. There is some lack of gold leaf.

A pair of lovely lacquered antique Japanese Hibachis (braziers) using a refined Kamakurabori technique. Featuring Chrysanthemums (Kiku) and Paulownia (Kiri) flowers and leaves with a bronze insert. Originally used as hand warmers during the cold of winter, they make elegant flower pots for plants and Ikebana flower arrangements.

Original bronze ornamentation features a large clasp with stylized arabesque Lotus blossoms on either side and the Dharma wheel above and below. Makie lacquer crossed feathers Mon (family crest). Opening the doors of the altar reveals the Buddha in its original patina and a hand painted upper apron with lotus blossoms...

Antique Japanese lacquer raised tray. Standing on four legs with square frame and decorated all over with scrolling vines and pine bows in maki-e lacquer on a black ground with clouds of gold nashiji. Prominent in the design is the appearance of the aoi mon (crest) of the Tokugawa clan, marking this tray as the property of the ruling Tokugawa Shogunate.

Japanese lacquer tray with a mountain stream and cranes in a raised landscape scene. This small/medium tray is about the best as they come in displaying many types of lacquer techniques including Maki-e, Hiramaki-e, and Takamaki-e with superb colors and fine gold nashiji work having shaped corners with concave edges. The cranes, pine trees, and mountains are all done in raised relief with the cranes showing incredible details...

Large Japanese Meiji period rounded square form black lacquered wood deep tray decorated in gold and polychrome accents with three birds among flowers and bamboo above a stream at the bottom. The rim is gold. 14 3/4" square with a lip nearly 2 1/4" high. Late 19th to early 20th century.
