Chinese : Pre 1970 item #497829 (stock #6002)
The China Coast
China Coast Couture offers a Dong tribal gown from Guizhou Province, China. This is a silk thread embroidery depicting dragons together with pearl, flame, lingxi, scroll and keyfret motifs, on a black cotton fabric that has been "leathered" (treated with certain coatings and beaten) to make it water repellant and to give it a shiny surface. The coat is in fine condition. Age is assumed to be between 40 and sixty years...
A very fine Chinese soapstone dragon seal, the dragon emerging from wreaths of smoke, intently gazing at the pearl of wisdom. The base has a beautifully executed seal engraving. I am unsure of the origin of the stone or its correct name but it is semi transparent and shows well its internal composition. My photographs show the seal larger than life, which seems to coarsen its appearance somewhat, it is a high quality object, genuine in all respects and a delight to handle...

Chinese Export Porcelain Plate, c. 1840. Wonderful black butterfly pattern in eight pointed star centers surrounded by eight roundels of black and gold fish. Decoration also includes birds in bamboo, two bats with good luck coins, two yellow and black birds, butterfly with fruit, and two birds on a rock with flowers. A very unusual pattern. 9 5/8 inches.
A remarkable 15th century Ming Chinese bronze temple vase with Islamic inscriptions, Zhengde period, 1506 ~ 1521 C.E. The vase has photographed lighter under my lamps than it appears normally. The lighting shows that beneath the accumulated dark patina there are dots of verdigris that must have formed when the vase was first in situ...
A fine pair of Chinese cloisonné moon flasks each decorated with a water buffalo gazing at a frog in the water on one side, a domestic cat gazing at a butterfly on the other. The roundels are set in a ground of formal scrolling lotus. The necks are supported by gilt and enamel ruyi handles. The vases are dramatic in appearance due mostly to the unusual colours used. The cloisons (wires used to separate the colours) are soldered to the body before enamelling, a sure sign of early manufacture...
A substantial water vessel for washing painting brushes, indispensable for the scholar’s table. The grey glaze with stained crackle is in imitation of the classic Song glaze, highly prized. It is a heavy piece and must have proved very stable when thrashing those brushes around!
5.1/2 inches (14 cm) diameter...
A very fine 18th century Chinese blue & white bowl probably made as a gift to celebrate success in an examination and given to someone who was already of high rank. It is one of the finest blue & white bowls that I have handled in 30 years of business. Such a shame it is damaged. Qianlong period. My price is certainly less than 10% of its perfect value.
8.1/2 inches (21.6 cm) diameter, 3.5/8 inches (9.2 cm) high...
