Antique Japanese single section tansu from the Sendai region made from kuri (chestnut) wood with a red lacquer finish. A rare and beautiful kiri (paulownia) wood tansu from the Matsumoto region of Japan. The tone and texture of the wood grain pairs nicely with the elaborate iron hardware. Its drawers pull open with sturdy iron "mokko" melon style handles with large incised backplates. Two drawers towards the bottom of the piece secure into place with a short locking bar. Antique Japanese suzuri bako, or calligraphy box, made from keyaki (zelkova) hardwood with hand-forged iron hardware. The top of the box is hinged with a large, shallow compartment. The front has two small drawers with iron rings pulls. This box would have once been used for storing ink stones and other calligraphy articles.

A thick glazed tokkuri and chokko cup by Koyama Kiyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The Tokkuri has a playful stance, slightly cocky and leaning, as if it wants to pour. A massive Bizen Sculpture befitting any Museum collection by Kawabata Fumio exhibited at the 11th Nihon Togeiten National Pottery Exhibition in 1991 (Catalog included) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 23 x 13-1/2 x 19 inches (58 x 34 x 48 cm) and is in fine condition weighing 18 kilograms (40 pounds) not including the box. The exhibition label remains attached to the base. It was purchased from the artist.
