Antique 18th century Japanese charming small scroll painting of a beautiful maiden riding a kirin (in Chinese, qilin). The mythical creature is part lion with the body of a dragon and the hooves of a deer. It represents good fortune, protection, prosperity, longevity and fertility. Beautifully painted in sumi ink and light colors on paper. Mounted on paper. Signed by the artist. (pvt. Collection) purchased in early 1980's.

"EARLY SUMMER WATER"
the blossoms have fallen, the fetters of my heart, have also loosened,
and it has become summer, and rivulet murmurs cool and clear.

Literati taste of a Chinese boxwood brush pot with polished skin and twisted knot holes. An elegant form representing a natural world which is a keen favorite in the Song dynasty.

Beautiful Chinese hardwood seal treasure box, possible Zitan or Wumu wood,with all over carved design of complex geometric motifs and dragons. Four drawers are hidden on each side with dividers inside for storing and organizing seals. Its stand is intricately carved with spirals and flowers. Dates from the 20th century. Size: 9.75" L x 9.75" W x 6" H

Chinese antique scroll painting with calligraphy. Painted on green paper printed with silver dragon in clouds. Signed "Mo Youzhi". Mo Youzhi (1811-1871) was a famous calligraphy painter. 19th century. Size of scroll: 84" high x 22" wide. Size of art: 52 1/2" high x 16 1/4" wide.

Netsuke nicely carved to represent a man standing with a slightly mischievous expression and posture. Ivory, with a fine age patina. Japan, mid Edo Period. Height: 5.9 cm. Minute age cracks (absolutely no damage), slight erosion, otherwise very good condition.

Okimono nicely carved to represent a bearded dignitary standing, wearing formal attire. Ivory, fine patina. Japan, early 20th century. Height: 25 cm. Old accidents and restorations (see photos), otherwise good condition.

Antique Japanese two section 3' mizuya (kitchen tansu) with original dark lacquer frame, gorgeous natural Keyaki (elm) wood burl front panels, large open display area with shelving.

This is really a rarely seen example of antique Japanese ceramic art: impressive Katakuchi Chawan (tea bowl with a spout), made of unrefined Mino clay. Katakuchi chawans of that age are barely available on the antique market. It is the only one in our collection. So take your chance.

Otafuku, the embodiment of feminine warmth, smiles softly as she draws her robes up, a large pottery figure by Teishitsu Gigei-In Suwa Sozan I. An identical image with overglaze enamel decorations is visible in the 1929 posthumous exhibition catalog (Copies included). It is over 15 inches (39 cm) tall.
