Rare Japanese chirimen silk kimono with a jacquard weave, in gradating shades of blue, with Shibori designs of flowers and flowing water, lined in salmon pink silk with flowers. Shibori is a very labor intensive style of dying fabric in which small areas are tied and twisted to create dramatic patterns. Jacquard weaving is done on a special loom and results in complex patterns. Size: 67" H x 51" L

Japanese Keyaki (zelkova) choba tansu (merchant chest) with complete original lacquer finish. Quartered sawn keyaki hardwood relieving the distinctive woodgrain seen on all sides. Solid Keyaki hardwood used in every part of construction. Adorned in heavy iron hardware and original locking bar. Excellent original condition. Working keys are included. This is a top example of a Edo period Japanese Choba Tansu.

Japanese ceramic square dish by famed artist Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875) with lovely grass calligraphy, tan milky translucent crackle glaze, curled edges, four oval feet, bottom incised with floral pattern and signature. An exquisite Japanese pillow, the body woven with red pigment lacquer, the ends lacquered in black with gilt lacquer. One end depicts the mythical creature Baku, said to devour bad dreams. The other end is a floral scene with beautiful nashiji gold flakes.

Beautiful Chinese hardwood altar table in black lacquer finish, with highly intricate and ornate gilt lacquer designs all over. The front and back are carved to look like coins held together by ropes. The very top has three hand painted panels depicting gorgeously detailed ocean landscape scenes.
