$200.00 A simple yet artistic Seto ware jar. The jar is done in a creme base with a brown and green color drip glaze surrounding the piece. The style of glazes is reminiscent of the expressions seen Japanese earthenwares of Seto, Tanba, or Kyoto. The work contains a signature-like inscription on the bottom which reads, Sanshun. Age: 19th-20th century. Size: Height 9" Diameter 9.1"
Large and heavy antique Japanese Seto ware Kashiki (dessert) bowl made during Mid-Edo Period (1603-1868)
Seto pottery, dated as early as the 13th century, produced around Seto city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is also considered as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Size 5.8cm. high; 21.4cm. diameter; 835g weight. Condition Good considering the age. There small old repairs of the rim, no cracks.

SOLD Antique Japanese small haribako (sewing box). Made with 5 small drawers of various sizes. A hinged lid on top flips up to reveal a tray for storing a pin cushion and sewing supplies. This pulls out to reveal a secret hidden drawer behind it. To the right of this is a flip up holder for the third hand clip. Sakura (Cherry) body and Kuri (Chestnut) wood drawer fronts, Kiri (Paulownia) wood drawer interiors. Bronze hardware with Warabite drawer pulls.

This jar was originally used to store tea but became desired as an object of mingei beauty due to the tea ceremony aesthetics. It measures 4.5" wide at mouth 21' tall.

The skin shows the characteristic pock marks and imbedded fieldspar with a natural ash glaze. Originally used for tea storage, it has become a fine example of Japanese Wabisabi or understated elegance as well as an epitome of Mingei folk art.

SOLD Antique Japanese Buddhist Pilgrim's coat. Buddhist monks associated with the teachings of Kukai (or Kobo Daishi) would embark on a pilgrimage to visit the 88 temples on the island of Shikoku. Upon arriving to each temple, the monk would bathe before giving offerings and reciting prayers as well as receive a stamp distinctive to each temple.
