Nice old storage basket from the Lahu ethic group, Northern Thailand. This has a tough double layered weave with the outer wall made from rattan and the inner wall of bamboo strips. Lahu baskets are held in high regard by the other tribes in the area and were sold or traded to them. This is a genuine old tribal piece and not a tourist piece made for the home décor market. Acquired in 1990, and has been in storage since them a reasonable estimate on age would be 40 to 50 years old...

A large covered box with floral moifs on a grey/light blue underglaze. The bottle with a globular shape and unglazed base.

Vietnamese 16th Century Green Glazed Bowl

This rare bowl was made during the 16th century. Apart from the unglazed stacking ring and base it is coated in an apple-green glaze, the depth of colour of which varies according to its thickness. There are small areas around the inner wall where the glaze has not covered but this appears to be unintentional.

Fine Vietnamese 14th / 15th Century Moulded Bowl

This rare bowl was made during the 14th - 15th century and is coated in a finely-crackled yellowish-brown glaze, the depth of colour varying according to its thickness. Around the centre is a wide unglazed stacking ring, and around the inner wall are various moulded leaf and floral patterns. Apart from unintentional glaze splashes, the foot remains unglazed.

A leather or skin bag with original wonderfully cast brass fittings, both ends of the chain in the form of a singha head, the mythical beast, totem for all Batak People. Shamans "datu" kept magical substances in these bags. Please compare to the "salipi" in the collection of the "Musee du Quai Branly" in Paris. Condition: wear to leather and few small holes. Magnificent lacquered basket with domed lid from the Karen ethnic group Northeast Thailand. The walls are constructed of strips of bamboo with rattan bindings and wooden base. The lid has one layer of woven bamboo with a tihck layer of natural lacquer while the lower half has a classic double layered wall with another coating of lacquer inside, which would have made this piece virtually water proof.
