This is one of the best Shounai-Noren used in Shonai, Yamagata area for Edo period. As for the hemp of this item, a delicate thread spun by hand is used. The pattern is full of Chadougu which was popular in Shikoku. Chadougu is an instrument used at tea ceremony. The Chadougu design reached shounai by a goods-carrying merchant ship. The artist Fujita displayed cloth full of Chadougu in the atelier of Japan. There was the picture near a great painter without sense of incongruity...

Superbly crafted in classical Roman style, from 19th century period, 22 inches in height, good condition with no imperfections.

Hanging scroll. The eight-armed deity, bearing arms and jewels, and a coiled snake (the deity Ugajin) on her head, sits on a lotus-leaf-seat, flanked by Daikoku. Before her are the 15 disciples, or jugo doji. Ink, mineral colors, gold and gofun on silk. Japan, Edo period, 18th century.

This is a very fine and attractive Mt Fuji wireless cloisonne box. It actually looks very similar to a Mt Fuji Sosuke tray we once had. It is not signed butthe artist is most likely Ando or Gonda. The Box measures 5 1/4 by 4 inches and s 2 3/8 inches tall. The box is beautiful and perfect except for some odd tool marks on the inner rim of the lid.

Waves of color belt this unusual form by Usui Kazunari enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 20 inches (50 cm) tall, roughly 8 inches (20 cm) diameter and in fine condition.
Usui Kazunari was born in Seto city, Aichi in 1954, and graduated the Nagoya University of Art, sculpture division in 1977. He immediately apprenticed under Kato Shuntei, where he remained until establishing his own kiln in 1983. He has been often displayed at the Nihon Dento Kogeiten and Nihon Togeiten...

Japanese Dragon decorated Lacquer and crushed Egg shell inlaid Document Box, 2 7/8" high, 11 3/4" wide 4" deep, with copper color metal hinges, lock box with key hole in front. Some lacquer losses are all around, eggshell decorated dragon is looking upward towards Mt. Fuji. The condition is fair, shows some lacquer losses.

Nine(9) Japanese brown Lacquer on wood sake dishes, many different patterns and designs on each lacquer dishes, 1" high and 4 1/8" diameter-largest, 7/8" high and 3 1/2" diameter-smallest dish, with some dull spots and tiny lacquer loss areas, Sake dishes are stored inside signed wooden box.

Japanese deep red or burgundy colored molded glass tile bracelet. Set in silver metal, the glass tiles feature a floral design. In excellent condition, the bracelet measures 6.75" long. Each tile measures about 1" x .75". Pictures don't do justice to this bracelet. If you think you like it, then you'll be very pleased you you receive it. You won't be disappointed.

Rich patina jizaikagi hearth fish from the Taisho Period C.1920. The pot stabalizers had an iron rod through the fish that went up into a long bamboo pole that had an iron hook on the bottom to hold the iron pot over the hearth fire in old japanese farm houses. Antique Japanese single section tansu with a lacquered keyaki front and top, black lacquered sides and front frame. It has round iron lockplates, decorated with a large kiri leaf, warabite handles, and a side lockbox. Size: 35" height, 42" width, 16.5" depth

Attention-getting Japanese paper mache demon face mask. Has a devious grin, large bulbous nose, with fanged gold teeth. Face is black with red and gold highlights, making features stand out and gives an amusing yet intriguing look. Contains holes in ears of mask with cloth netting running behind face. This is a wonderful cabinet vase by Gonda. This vase is not signed but Gonda was the master of this style of cloisonne. These wireless iris vases are not only highly desirable, but are also not easy to come by. The vase measures 3 3/4 inches tall. Condition is excellent.

This is very rare Shibori Kimono produced in Akita Asamai area for Edo period. This is dyed with a natural indigo plant carefully. As for this, a pattern is Eba-gara. Three carps swim in the water like a brick. In the Hanada-colored ground, three bold carps and waterweeds with the force are expressed in indigo dyeing Shibori. This cotton is spun by hand...

An interesting Tanzaku Shaped slab of colorful clay mounted onto aluminum hanging hardware by Mihara Ken enclosed in a signed box (carboard) dating from 1996 titled Ritsu. It is 7 x 6 x 36 cm (3 x 2-1/2 x 14 inches) and is in fine condition. A Tanzaku is a pillar shaped paper card upon which is traditionally written poetry.
Mihara Ken was born in Shimane prefecture in 1958, and apprenticed under Funaki Kenji at the age of 23...

Antique Japanese bronze vase with a rectangular form, a raised horizontal line running along its very middle with the image of a taotie motif (jawless face/ogre). It has long, slender side handles curling at the bottom and forming into a face at its very top and its neck and base are fluted outwards. Meiji period (1868-1912) Size: 11" height, 5" width

This unique and stylish bronze vase has a beautiful shape. Two charming elephant trunks extend from the neck of vase on either side with a floral, geometric background. Near base, Japanese Taotie, ogre-like characters, and curvy designs spread around the vase, adding intriguing detail. Vase also includes a copper inset that can be removed.
