Zentner Collection
$3,000.00 Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's chest, in a tall and slender style with many drawers. It is made of kiri (paulownia) wood with a dark brown lacquer. The drawers bear an emblem faded from age, perhaps once used to label the contents inside. The very bottom drawer has an iron locking plate. Edo age (1615-1867).
Exhibited in Palo Alto Cultural Center.

Sold, Thank you! A silver mist box with glass lid by Kondo Takahiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is roughly 4-1/2 x 3 x 4-1/2 inches (11.5 x 7 x 11.5 cm) and is in excellent condition.
Takahiro (b. 1958) was born the grandson of Living National Treasure Kondo Yuzo. However he graduated Hosei University not with a degree in sculpture or crafts, but in Literature... Japanese cloisonné bottle form lidded vase on a Satsuma earthenware substrate with "kidney bean" cloisons, signed in orange-red on the base "Kinkozan." The body of the vase is decorated with opposing blue flower filled cartouches with white borders set against a black background permeated with flowers. A blue band with red and white flowers and diamond forms encircles the neck. The lid is decorated with a single flower. Meiji period (circa 1870s). 8” high. Very good overall condition...
Japanese Meiji period teardrop form cabinet vase covered in a rich mottled blue glaze over a brown base. The vase bears the impressed mark of Okumura Shozan (1841-1905) on the glazed base. Shozan is perhaps best known for his remarkable copies of Ninsei and Kenzan works. 19th century. 4 1/8" high (5 1/8" on the stand). Stand included. SOLD A rare sake-daru (Sake Keg) made of piled woven bamboo in combination with Japanese red lacquered pine. This tsuno-daru has two horn-like staves with inscriptions, a cross piece forming a carrying handle, and a wooden plug that pulls out. This saki barrel dates pre 1920. Sake casks such as this were prepared by sake factories to be used for special ceremonial occasions in the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. In excellent condition, it measures 21” tall and 7” in diameter.

ALREADY SOLD This is a vintage Japanese pottery tea bowl of Hagi ware, which was made by the great potter, the 14th Shinbei Sakakura (1917-1975) about 60 years ago. The glaze has a variaton of light red and grayish colors, intermitted by golden lines of the kintsugi. He was one of the greatest potters of Hagi ware, who was identified as an important human cultural treasure of Yamaguchi prefecutre, Japan in 1972. The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom...

$225 A very unusual modern Japanese pottery vase. Exaggerated chatter decoration spiraling from the foot to the shoulder, the tacky clay lifted to a very coarse texture before firing. The neck to rim, also spiraling up the vase, finished smoothly. Apparently in the tradition of the stoneware tile work kilns of Bizen and Tokoname. Studio artist marks in impressed cartouches on the foot. Excellent condition. Height, 8 inches.
