A Keyaki (Zelkova) root burl bonsai stand with twisty gnarly roots supporting a flat surface. Beautiful original patina.

Age: Mid Century (1950-1960's)

Dimensions: 14 1/2" Wide by 13" High by 12 3/4" Deep

Small box and cover made of very thinly cut keyaki (Zelkova) wood, in oblong shape with rounded corners. The domed cover is decorated in black polished lacquer, black ishime lacquer, gold lacquer inlaid with small pieces of mother-of-pearl. An open folding fan wraps around the surface of the cover, continuing onto the sides, decorated with parting clouds, showing silhouettes of birds flying over waves.

Inside, the surface is covered in thin brown lacquer, allowing the wood grain to show...

A wonderful signed Kibori (single chop carving) Okimono of a Stag by the renowned Ika Goyo, beautifully painted in delicate tones, with removable antlers carved of horn. Original box is included. 7 x 7 x 7 inches, 18 x 18 x 18 cm.

Black Raku Chawan with wood box, both have the sign of the 12th. Kichizaemon Konyu ( 1857-1932 ).

The lid back of the wood box bares the appraisal and of Sen Sosa XII 'Sesai' ( 1863 - 1937 ), who has been the 12th grand tea master of Omotesenke.

We offer this tea bowl by order of a German collector.

KIHARA CHAWAN

Japanese semi-porcelain bowl with such calm iron-glazed picture as the transitional ware between Karatsu and Shoki-Imari ware, Kiwara kiln in Nagasaki area, Edo period (1603-1868), approx. D 12 x H 6.9cm (4.72 x 2.71in)...

No longer in existence, the Kahara kiln of Nagasaki—where this tea bowl was crafted—operated from the early to mid Imari period (roughly 1624 - 1671).

A magnificent composite, this piece was excavated from the kiln grounds and repaired using boldly applied silver joinery (gintsugi)...

Takuro surely needs no introduction. He was born in 1981 in Hiroshima and graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Kyoto Saga University in 2001...

A sprawl of chrysanthemum are delicately painted growing beneath the elegant curves of a Kanshi poem on this fine silk scroll by Kamisaka Sekka enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Pigment and ink on silk with silk border and black lacquered rollers. The scroll measures 11-1/2 x 73-1/2 inches (30 x 186 cm) and in fine condition. A broken open Tsubo By Kim Hono enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Chikyu no Tameiki (The Earth Sighs). It is for the most part, raw earthen colors, with a thick pool of tinted aquamarine glass inside. It is 40 x 34 x 41.5 (16 x 13-1/2 x 16-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition. Upon the box is drawn an image of the Tsubo with a single dried lotus seed pod rising from within...
