A case for hemp seed made of hechima, sponge gourd, one kind of squash. It has writing "hemp seed" and the year "Showa 9", 1934. It has beautiful color of urushi and kakishibu by aging. L:83cm, Diameter:12cm

A masterpiece by one of Japan's preeminent artists, Seiko Sawada b.1894-1988. This signed piece was executed out of keyaki wood in his younger days in the 1930's depicts Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods, riding a fish and a wave spouting out of the fish's mouth. Daikoku, the god of abundance, is riding his treasure bag holding his hammer of magic. The Sawada Museum is in Atami, Shizuoka. Sawada was awarded the Order of Merit in the 1970's.

A fisherman's work wear hand-woven of hemp for the weft and cotton yarn for the warp. Stripes are vegetable indigo dye and also natural color cotton yarn. It is from Tsushima in Nagasaki prefecture, an island located between Korean Peninsula and north Kyushu, and the textile is called Tsushima-asa. It had been woven till 1930s, but not woven since then, so it is precious, especially in this excellent condition one...

An accordion album featuring calligraphy and paintings by various well known Zen priests of the first half of the 20th century. Including the opening there are 30 pages. The book is 22 x 31 cm and in overall fine condition. The opening pages are by Kutsu Deiryu (Izawa Kanshu 1895-1954, head priest of Kaiseiji), the famous protégé of Nakahara Nantenbo. Arai-hari meisen cloth for one kimono. Arai-hari means a kimono is unsewn, washed and dried on the board, which is a traditional way of cleaning kimono. An antique Japanese Ikebana basket in a cylindrical form woven in a herringbone pattern. 6 vertical bamboo supports with flared feet connected with a lucky turtle weave at the base and a woven coin half the way up the side. The turtle would represent longevity and the coins would symbolize prosperity. With a star crossed base and two ring handles.

A vintage Japanese Isho Tansu (Kimono chest) in 3 section made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood with Kaki (Persimmon) wood accents. All original bronze and other metal hardware. Beautiful lacquer decorative plates adorn the sliding doors with a pair of flying cranes, woven baskets and bamboo trees. Behind the doors lie three small drawers and a split level shelf. The center section and bottom section each have three drawers with spacious storage each...
