Never displayed. Removed from original folder for archival storage. Muto Katei studied printmaking under Kawase Hasui. The unusual color palette works beautifully in this image. First edition Japanese shin hanga woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991) titled "Summer Night" (Natsu no yo) depicting a large fireworks display above a rural village at night. The left margin contains the kanji date of " Showa 33" (1958), the seal of the publisher Unsodo, and the seals of the carver Okura, and printer Shinmi. The artist's red seal is at the lower right corner of the image. The Unsodo (“Un”) watermark is faintly visible at the lower left margin corner...

Lake Chuzenji, Nikko, 1930. Size: Oban, approximately 16.5 x 11.25 inches. This is a very desirable edition published in the 1950s by Shobisha, which acquired publishing rights from Kawaguchi and Sakai. Bears the round, red seal used by Shobisha in the 1950s on the verso. Condition: Excellent. One corner has a light crease at the margin. A good cloisonne vase depicting Mt. Fuji in clouds using 'musen' (wireless) technique with pleasing affect. The foreground with pagoda in autumnal landscape against mountain and river landscape - the mountains again using wireless technique to suggest fading into the distance, and the river also using 'musen' to suggest the flowing of water. The back of the vase continues the light blue mottled sky. Silver plated rims. Not signed, so we stop short at saying it is Ando school. Excellent condition...

$3,000.00 A Mashiko ware tea bowl (chawan) by Hamada Shoji. The bowl is glazed in a style known as kaki yu or persimmon color glaze which is often seen in Mashiko wares. Hamada Shoji along with Yanagi Muneyoshi and Barnard Leech were part of the mingei movement in the late 20th century. The movement emphasized the simple minimalist beauty found in daily objects made by unknown artists. Thus, Shoji never signed his works, where he too wanted people to simply appreciate his ceramics, not his notoriety...
