A big Samurai clay doll made of Fushimi clay of the Kyoto area. He is standing proud and strong in the position of drawing a sword.

It is a figure with pleasing and charming signs of time and rests of colours. The Samurai figure dates from the late 19th. century or probably earlier.

Normally all the clay dolls are somehow originated from the Fushimi clay of the Kyoto area. They have been sold as souvenirs to the pilgrims on the road of Fushimi Kaidou from Kyoto to Fushimi ...

Japanese carved Stone sculpture "Jizo" Guardian, holding two(2) hands together praying for protecting Children, Women and Travelers, Edo period before 1800, 12 1/2" high, 7" wide, 4 1/2" deep. Weather worn natural looking stone Jizo has small area 4" x 4" size is carved out on the side of the bottom.

Twelve Shinsho are guardian Buddhas of Yakushi Nyorai and they are 12 worriors and armoured. They have 12 animal symbols on the head. This one looks "Sarugami", monkey judging from the apprearance. Early 18th century. In good condition but some parts are lost. Height:29cm Width:12cm

Daruma standing tall, wrapped tightly in his garment, the tips of his feet just peeping out. This pose is associated with the episode in which Daruma travels to China, crossing the river Yangzi, while standing on a reed.
The figure was molded in a cast in two halves and joined before firing. A hole in the back functions as a vent and prevents the statue from exploding while fired in the kiln.

A masterpiece by one of Japan's preeminent artists, Seiko Sawada b.1894-1988. This signed piece was executed out of keyaki wood in his younger days in the 1930's depicts Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods, riding a fish and a wave spouting out of the fish's mouth. Daikoku, the god of abundance, is riding his treasure bag holding his hammer of magic. The Sawada Museum is in Atami, Shizuoka. Sawada was awarded the Order of Merit in the 1970's.

Chinese Qing dynasty lacquered wood guardian figure standing on a square base with arms raised and his left black boot resting on a thin circular object embedded in the square platform. He is dressed in elaborately decorated animal head armour painted in red, blue, and black polychrome pigments with fine gilt highlights. 15 7/8" high. 19th century.
