This fan would have been used to shade from the sun and to signal troops. Though this shape of fan was not used as a weapon, it could have come in very handy in battle and there are legends of samurai heroes fighting with nothing but their war fans. It is 27.2 inches (69.1 cm) long by 1.7 inches (4.4 cm) wide and the blade is 20.6 inches (52.3 cm) in length by 1.1 inches (2.8 cm) wide. It is 1.5 lb.

It is missing a handle. The saya has stains, surface wears, and scratches. The blade has rust, flea bite chips, oxidation, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

Antique Japanese ozutsu tanegashima matchlock rifle with intricate silver and gold inlay of a dragon in swirling clouds. This wide cast iron barrel is further decorated with a three character mark and the crest of the Tokugawa shogunate. Antique Japanese long tanegashima matchlock rifle with intricate silver and gold inlay of a dragon in swirling clouds. The cast iron barrel is further decorated with a five character mark and the crest of the Tokugawa shogunate. The burl wood handle is set with elaborate brass work incised with designs of a rabbit, bamboo, flowers and birds.

Antique Japanese Edo period 1600-1868, Samurai war hat Nirayama Jingasa kabuto made of finely hand-woven bamboo fiber with a black lacquered exterior, adorned on each side with gold samurai nobility family crest - moon. The interior is lacquered with red urushi.

CONDITION: Showing age and usage, signs of wear from time and long use, some lacquer loss around the edges, and minor crazing to the lacquer finish but remains in very good condition considering its age, still flexible.
