Large Japanese Meiji period rounded square form black lacquered wood deep tray decorated in gold and polychrome accents with three birds among flowers and bamboo above a stream at the bottom. The rim is gold. 14 3/4" square with a lip nearly 2 1/4" high. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with only a few fine scratches on the back and a few tiny dings on the top edge. From the collection of a Japanese woman in Tucson, Arizona.

An antique Japanese Buddhist altar stand made of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood. All original Urushi lacquer and each part was hand carved. Featuring a center lotus flower with a 4 petal Dorje Vajra on each side. Beautiful craftsmanship throughout. Slight loss to back leg support.

Japanese Buddhist temple stand for a bell bowl with a beautiful red lacquer, black lacquer bottom, and gold lacquered accenting. Bell bowls (or singing bowls) are played by striking the rim with a padded mallet. The sound is used for relaxation and meditation. Meiji period (1867-1912) Size: 8.5" height, 9" width

An antique Japanese three-case Inro. The Inro is reddish brown cherry bark lacquered with a dragonfly hovering over a lotus leave and pond. The other side is a continuation of the lotus leaf motif with small gold leaf flowers. The interior has a continuation of the cherry bark surface. The Inro is signed by 'Zeshin" (Shibata Zeshin 1807-1891) with a cursive monogram. Fitted with an orange oval ojime bead.

An antique Japanese Hibachi with Maki-E gilt lacquer and inlay in a melon shape made of kiri wood. The gilt lacquer designs are of a bird in peonies and ivy trailing around the edge. Gilt nashiji flakes and inlay add depth to the nature scene. Interior has an old patina.

Exquisite pair of lacquered wood temple lotus offering stands in lotus motif. The Lotus is the penultimate buddhist symbal of purity. The base is a lotus with lotus flowers on the stem and lotus cup at the top. Minor lacquer wear but in fabulous condition for its Meiji Period C.1890 age. 12" tall and 6" wide.

Beautiful Meiji Period C.1890 maki-e raised gold lacquer Tachibana citrus tree with silver inlay cherry blossoms floating around the Tachibana tree. Some of the Tachibana citrus fruit also have silver inlay. Lacquer on rest of mirror case is Nashiji or speckled gold lacquer. The pad the mirror rests on is hand dyed sarasa with natural vegitable dyes from India. On the back of the miror is " Made by Takashima Sagaminokami Mitsutada". 12" tall by 8" wide. Antique Japanese pair of lacquer trays with a black exterior and deep red lacquer interior. The sides of each tray are pierced with gourd shapes on their sides, lines, and small holes, and the rim is dotted with gilt lacquer. An antique, Japanese boxwood lacquer comb with two kanzashi hair pins decorated with niello silver & mokoume-gane etched cat on gilt. The fine toothed comb is hand carved with floral motifs and a man walking over a bridge. The reverse side shows a house surrounded by mountains. Wooden combs in Japan were once believed to have shamanic qualities. Women would brush their black hair thinking that the combs would gather each strand’s spiritual energy...

Japanese hair comb decorated with a pair of love birds, Oshidori (Mandarin ducks) perched on a plum tree, raised gold makie with silver, kirikin and shells. The theme here is auspicious. We counted 33 teeth in 3 cm, amazingly skillful hand work. Excellent condition - actual color loss in the center area of wooden teeth is not so obvious as shown in the photos.
