Antique Japanese Nihon Matsu isho tansu (clothing chest) in two sections from the Nihonmatsu area of Fukushima Prefecture. Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. A warm grained Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) two piece Yonezawa Isho Tansu (clothing chest from Yonezawa) finely constructed of pine (matsu) and highly desirable paulownia (kiri). 42 x 34 x 16 inches (107 x 86 x 41 cm). Very Good Condition. This chest is from Shonai, a region of Yonezawa that makes chests that are highly prized for their combination of understated Japanese design with a sense of tradition.

Japanese black lacquered on woven Bamboo Trunk, with red lacquered wooden frame on the bottom, Ca. 1920's, 14 1/2" high, 27 1/4" x 15 1/4" wide, two(2) black iron lock compartment on the side and large handles in front and back and corners are wrapped around with black iron. Wooden stretchers on the bottom to support for strength, blue rice paper lining inside the top and the bottom. Some black lacquer loses on the surface and corners are worn.

Includes locking safe box with 2 small interior drawers that are also made of keyaki. Piece retains its original translucent red-orange lacquer finish that glows in the light.

Japanese black lacquered woven Bamboo Trunk, Meiji period, early 1900's, 11" high, 25" x 15" wide, with large and heavy black iron handles supported by wooden board on both side, paper lining inside and metal hinges on top to open one side of the top cover. This Bamboo Trunk is good to storing Dolls and other necessary light weight items. There are some black lacquer loses on the surface.
