Bamboo basket container coated with urushi. It is handwoven of bamboo strips and covered with washi (Japanese handmade papaer), and then painted with black urushi. It has a label inside which says "Kataji kawago" which used to be a basket made of bamboo or wicker and covered with deer skin, or covered with washi later. A terracotta figure of the Three Wise Monkeys - Mizaru who is covering his eyes, Kikazaru who is covering his ears and Iwazaru who is covering his mouth. All three embody the proverb "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". The figure is combed terracotta with blue, black and brown paint. 4 pieces of Nara Uchiwa whose history dates back to Nara period (A.D.710~794). It began as manual side line work of the Shinto priest of Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara. The traditional motifs (Tenpyo Moyo) such as peonix, deer, kylin (imaginary animal), dragon, Parrot etc. These four (originally five) were made by Ikeda Gankodo which is only existing maker of it in Nara.
