Known best for his celadon and sometsuke porcelains and tea ware, this figurine is a scarce example of his talent with figuration. A set of five dishes with twin fish design based on Song dynasty examples from the 13th century Longquan kilns in Southern China by Miyanaga Tozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Inside the box is a dedication by the important turn of the century artist, scholar and sinophile Tomioka Tessai. Each is 13.5 cm diameter, 4 cm tall (5-1/4 x 1-5/8 inches) and all are in excellent condition.

Sold, Thank you! An ornate porcelain image of a horse draped in full regalia by Miyanaga Tozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The detail about the head is fabulous, and the artist has done an excellent job capturing the musculature of the creature while allowing something ethereal. In Japan horses (and cows and foxes and deer and lots of other creatures) are often enshrined as messengers or embodiment of the gods in Shinto. This is 23.5 cm (9-1/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition...
A pair Japanese porcelain plates decorated with a mountain hermitage and some roundels one containing a rabbit in the Ko-Kutani palette. Base with "fuku" mark, the rim with brown dressing and the underside with pine needles. Condition: fine, base with partial brownish stains and dull glaze. Dimension: diameter: 18.8 cm x 3 cm high.

Sold, Thank you! Gold drizzles down the rough textured sides of this steep Tsutsu-chawan tea bowl by Ichikawa Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The gold shines brilliantly on the rough textured clay, alternating with patches of earthy orange and pale cream. It has the WOW! Factor in triplicate. Slightly oblong, it is roughly 11 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter 9.5 cm (3-3/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

Rare antique Seto ware teabowl made by Japanese potter Kato Bakutai (1861-1943) decorated with elegant horse and the calligraphy describing the First Firing of the year. The mark of the potter is stamped at the bottom.
Kato Bakutai was a prominent potter who initially worked under Kato Shuntai (1802-1877) being responsible for revival of Seto ware techniques in Japan in the 19th century.
