A beautiful Wangden carpet from Tibet, made with Yak hair warp with thick wool pile and fringe borders. Central floral pattern surrounded by a large tridimensional meander pattern. These kind of carpets were traditionally used in the monasteries to keep warm while sitting during long pujia ceremony in the cold winter. But were also used by wealthy families. This is a large and early Buddhist applique textile, dating to no later than the mid-19th century. The design consists of a double-dorje centering a "yin-yang" emblem, representing the masculine and feminine principles of the universe. The piece is complete and intact with minimal wear as one would expect. It measures just over 30" in diameter. Textiles such as this one are exceedingly rare and seldom found.

These two saddle rugs, in knotted pile, are forming a pair and were used together: the larger piece with trapezoid ends served as a saddle cloth (makden), while the smaller rug was a saddle cover (masho). Both items are in their original condition, with a red trim and backed with a coarse beige fabric. Provenance: old Swiss collection. Dimension approx.: makden: 120.5 x 67 cm, masho: 82.5 x 66 cm. Condition: signs of age and wear, rims with partial discoloration, faded.

Pair Tibetan Himalayan Wool hand made Wool Prayer or Meditation Rug, or Seat Cover in the monastery, Ca. early 1900's, 26" x 24" wide, five(5) different type of animal, Pig, Donkey, Sheep, Phoenix Bird, Bird inside shaped center with Greek Key border within inner and outer border. Even worn area throughout and some flat area in the middle. Purchased in Tibet long time ago, in good reasonable condition.

Tibetan Himalayan hand woven Wool Rug, with Buddihist motifs and double fish among free flowing Tibetan Clouds in cream color background, purchased new carpet in Shigatse or Gyantse Rug factory in 1980's, thick wool and heavy weight, 6 1/2'(78") x 4 1/2'(54"), with free flowing Tibetan Clouds and various Buddhist motifs in the cream color background, made by "Tibet-Gyen Carpet Factory" in Tibet, cloth label in the back, the condition is good, no wears or damages.

Originally part of a full sized Tibetan adult costume, this piece was cut down to complete a childs festival costume. Decorated with turquoise, coins, tassels and silver ornaments, this type of textile accessory would often be attached to the elaborate headdress or hat and drape down the back to complete the wearers costume. The Tibetan people are not wastefull and items of festival garments in any condition are hard to acquire. I have had it hanging on my wall for a number of years...

A very good Tibetan Meditation Mat / Rug made of hand woven wool of different colours; the centre medallion is decorated with a stylised Dragon while the large outer border has Buddhist symbols and flowers. Measurements: L 65 cm x W 57 cm. Condition: very good considering the age and use; only a very small area (1/5 cm) of repair at the border see picture no 4.

Made in simple design with green colour wool in changing hues, it is woven in narrow strips joined together and finished with red wool for the border. The Tsudruk carpets are made of three panels, each of the three panels is woven individually and then hand-stitched together. Tibetan Himalayan Wool Horse Rug with Dragon design, purchased in Lhasa Tibet early 1980's, 35" x 25" wide, curled up Dragon in the center on dark blue background bordered by Tibetan motif, the outer border is sewn with red Felt fabric and the bottom is dark blue fabric. The condition is new.

Worn for festival, this shapely Tibetan belt is covered with black and coral colored beads, cowrie shells and has a central medallion of silver with turquoise beads. The belt is secured around the waist with cord ties which extend from each side, I have used it as a wall decoration. At the widest section, the belt is 4 inches...The entire beaded length is 26 inches, but with the cord ties it will accommodate a large waist size

Fine and rare old rattan “tali” basket with a contracted mouth from the Idu Mishmi ethnic group of Arunachal Pradesh, India. In India they are primarily animist but in China where they are known as the Lhoba they have a strong spiritual affiliations with Tibetan Buddhism.
