Finely painted in two different gold tones showing scenes with figurines in courtyards, on a black lacquered ground. Condition: fine quite pristine, few traces of usage, the lock seems not to work. Antique Chinese bitong (brush pot) carved of huanghuali wood with mythical chilong creatures. Undulating edges around the rim seem to unfurl. The lower portion is carved with a cusped edge and three low feet. Beautiful grain.

In the inside it says that Chun Fa was born in the cyclical year of XianFeng, eleventh month, ninth day =1850, lived forty two years and died in the cyclical year of Guangxu 1891...
