Rare “spirit calling” bell from the Yao Mien ethnic group of Guangxi, Vietnam, Laos. This would be used in Daoist ceremonies by Dao Guang priests and an example may be seen in Jess Pourret’s book: The Yao, plate 570, pg 207. Fine old Yao embroidery with Chinese characters, from the Kin Mun Lantien subgroup Yunnan/Vietnam. This piece is in excellent condition with no damage, but the indigo has “bled” and is circa early 20th century. It is made from all handspun cotton with an intense indigo dye. A finely moulded biscuit glazed Wang Binrong style porcelain vase decorated with the eight buddhist emblems and two Qianlong style dragons. Antique Chinese yellow nephrite snuff bottle with a flat lip and oval foot rim. The interior is well hollowed out, the exterior is unadorned, 18th/19th century. It measures 2.75" tall 2"1/8" wide 3/4" deep.

Rare early 20th century Yi minority lacquered box constructed from leather. I purchased this piece in a Bai minority, weekly market in Yunnan near Dali around 2002. I assume this is now an extinct craft no longer being done because of the availability of cheap plastic items as well as the migration of artisans to better paying jobs in the city. Very minor lacquer losses on the edge. Excellent condition. H: 5cm/2in

A lovely and rare 18th century Yongzheng period famille rose four-sided vase, featuring four panels of carnation floral sprigs against a white ground, all framed by a border of floral scrolls against a famille noire black ground...

Tea bowl with charming decoration in Famille rose enamels and iron-red depicting a family scene, perhaps a birthday celebration: a boy and a young man are leading a cow up to the Pater Familias where he is resting comfortably under a blossoming tree, while two smiling ladies are bringing him presents, one of them carrying what looks like a teapot and the other a fish. Diameter "3/ 7.8 cm, height "1 2/3 / 4.2 cm. Condition: fine.
