Ancient Chinese Buddhist Pottery Amulet - Ming Dynasty

This is one of a group of moulded pottery tablets that we bought about twenty years ago. They are made from a relatively high-fired pottery and have a surprising amount of detail. They were made as amulets and votive offerings and were reported to have been excavated from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, where originally many would have been placed to ensure the success of the temple...

A Chinese gaming counter, made for the European market around 1800. Mother of pearl, engraved with scroll work and a star to one side, the other with butterflies. Width "2½/ 6,5 cm. Condition: fine.

Chinese carved large Hardwood polished Brown color Display Stand, heavy weight, made out of one piece of wood and supported by four(4) small feet attached to the stand with wooden peg, 2 1/4" high, 13 1/2" diameter-outside maximum diameter, 11 1/2" diameter-inside the rim. "Made in China" label on the bottom. One(1) more stand is available, that will make pair. The condition is good.

Zanzibar paisa, 1299 AH (1882 AD), bronze coin- diameter 25mm. Zanzibar was the center of the of the East African slave trade, until it became a signatory of the Moresby Treaty- abolishing it in 1822. The trade continued to a lesser degree up to 1873 when Captain John Kirk told, the at that time, Sultan Barghash, a total blockade of Zanzibar was imminent, unless this practice was abandoned...

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Dish with Fish (Ex. Grahame Clarke collection)

This porcelain dish was made during the 15th century. It has rounded sides and a "hole-bottom" base. It is decorated inside with, although rather indistinct, a "red biscuit" fish amongst water weeds that are in underglaze blue.

Diameter 11.5 cm. There are some crackles to the glaze and the glaze to the underside has an "orange peel" effect with some kiln grit embedded within the glaze...
