This attractive pottery model of a horse & rider was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is made from a relatively highly-fired pottery that has been "cold painted" in various different coloured pigments. The horse stands alert with its head turned a little to its left. The riders sits erect with his hands held out as though holding the reins... Green glazed pottery stye, containing 5 moulded goats, a typical burial gift from the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD). Diameter 22 cm. H. 7 cm.
Condition: iridescent glaze with normal age wear.

The pottery horseman a high-ranking soldier equipped with a huge broad sword at his side and body armor in blue and torquise with Mandarin batch on the chest at back. He is riding a large white horse and he is seated strongly twisting in the saddle. A mandarin batch or square (traditional Chinese: 補子; simplified Chinese: 补子; pinyin: bŭzi; Wade-Giles: putzŭ; Manchu: ᠰᠠᠪᡳᡵᡤᡳ sab... An xxl superb 64 cm high male attendant carrying his masters pibe and tobacco pouch. The figure is decorated with red, black and white pigmented colors.
