An interesting an artful Chinese glazed pottery figure of an Equatian dignitairy dating to the Wei-Sui period - 386-618 AD.

He is dressed in a robe and wears a hat, sitting as if the horse has just being brought to a halt. wiht a determined expression on his face.

Size: The figure measure 29,4 x 24 cm.

Condition: A choice figure with wear for type and age, and some nicely done restoration. Much original glaze still remains...

Lovely example of Han tomb sculpture. Made of red pottery, painted with red, white and black pigments. Both are in good condition, with normal age wear. Please note the remains of plant roots on one of the oxen, a very good sign of authenticity. A TL report from Ralf Kotalla confirms the age. H. 16 cm, L. 20 cm. Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD).

Arguably the most desirable pottery sculpture from the Tang Dynasty is the female courtier, or "fat lady". This figure was made around the mid 8th century and is a particularly elegant example. Chinese green glazed pottery stove with silvery surface.

The silvery surface is also called "mercury glaze". This silvery precipitation is the result of chemical changes in the lead glaze caused by prolonged burial in the tomb. Greenware became popular during the Eastern Han period.
