Ebony netsuke in the shape of Daruma wrapped in his garment. His face with long eyebrows carved in a stag horn insert. Inside Daruma’s body a human skeleton sits folded up. The stag horn skeleton is articulated in good detail, with movable joints. The bottom of the netsuke can be screwed into the body with two tiny stag horn pegs (one missing) and is made probably of black horn. Japan, Meiji period. Height Daruma: 2 inches (5 cm). Height skeleton: 3.75 inches (9.5 cm). Thin tension crack in side of Daruma. Skeleton in excellent condition. |
