| To imagine the amount of time that has gone into the making of this gorgeous lacquer incense container is difficult. It is made with no center, simply layer upon layer of lacquer dried, cut, shaped and polished to a brilliant sheen. The green shade is indicative of the Tsugaru region. The colors swirl and mingle, never mixing, the dozens of layers visible on the cut edge. It comes enclosed in a period wooden box and measures 1-3/4 inches (4.5 cm) in diameter and is in excellent condition, dating from the 19th century. | |||||||||
