| A stone frog, so realistic he looks wet, stands cagey on the edge of this antique Chinese stamp enclosed in a fine custom made Kiri-wood box from a Japanese collection of scholar items. The stamp is roughly 2-1/2 inches (6.5 cm) square, and in fine condition but for one small chip in the corner. Not our usual forte but the mug looking creature just called to me when I saw him. Truly a pleasure to hold. The stone is Juzan-seki (jap), Shoushan stone, and comes from Fujian province in China. It is called one of the four most famous materials for seal carving in China, ranging in color from a translucent white to dark red or yellow tinged brown. | |||||||||||||
