Rare Edo p. Japanese Samurai Uchidashi Armor

An outstanding Edo period armor of russet iron with the character Kaname (the pivotal Point) hammered out from the chest plate. It features a 28 plate sofukurin Suji Kabuto with wide Kasa-shikoro bearing the Maru-ni crest on the turned back fukigaeshi. An Umigame sea turtle (symbol of long life) sits astride the Kuwagata maedate. The mask is a resisei–ho, also in russet iron, with inlayed silver moustache and prominent flanges to protect the tie chords. THe shoulder plates are in the O-Sode size, and are single plates of iron with devils heads hammered out from the surface. From the Do hang 7 rows of scales, black lacquered and laced with white, green and orange lacing matching all other parts of the armor. The sangu are equally impressive, with heavy iron covering the thighs and iron plates over the shins. Matching cloth on the Kote and Haidate, the leggings have lost their backing cloth.
