| A late Edo period Ni-Mai Hotoke-do Gusoku of black textured lacquer laced with regal purple chord. The helmet is an 8 plate kabuto of tataki-nuri textured red/brown lacquer with a five lame Shikoro. The mask is also a tataki-nuri textured red/brown lacquer hanpo with three tier throat defense. The Do is a smooth hotoke-style with a dragon in maki-e on the front and matching kiri-kozane Sode. Under the dragon are laced three rows of silvered kirikozane scales and seven rows of kiri-kozane Gessan. Dark suns are visible on the scales of the Haidate, which matches the Sode. Only the Suneate shin guards do not match for cloth, although are consistent with eh armor and a very reasonable replacement. Overall the armor is very clean, with only some cracks in the lacquer on the helmet and wear to the folded edges of the sleeves to detract (see close-up photos). The maedate is a 20th century reproduction. | |||||||||||||||
