HAN DYNASTY BRONZE BUCKLE. A Chinese serpent headed, fluted bronze buckle from the Han Dynasty. The narrow hook end has been reattached and restored and the original inlay, probably gold and/or silver, is long gone, but the buckle is otherwise intact with a nice weight and a good patina (i.e. it has not been over-polished and the reverse side has been left completely in its natural, excavated state). Although the inlay material has completely disappeared, the channels that once held probably gold or silver are quite visible so that the decoration is pronounced and quite handsome. A rare item and priced according to condition. Length: 14cm (5-5/8”) 787 grams (2.7 ounces).
