| Of simple, understated and elegant design and lovely geometric proportion, the triple-fluted form avoids visual monotony by the placement of a subtle vertical separation demarcating a slightly recessed surface where the upper-third portion of this traditional, S-shaped hook narrows before terminating in a simplified dragon’s head. Reddish-brown, coppery-colored bronze with red cuprite and verdigris patination. All elements are completely intact. The integral fluted decoration seems to be typically Eastern Zhou and is familiar in certain well-documented bronze ritual vessels of this period, an example of which is shown in this catalog listing. Dimensions: 14cm (5-1/2”) length; weight: 37 grams (1.3 ounces). Additional and detailed photographs will be e-mailed to you on request, including digital-microscope 10x views of the bronze surface. | ||
