Chinese Brass Engraved Traveling Scholar’s Ink Box

Unusual teardrop-shaped traveling scholar's brass calligraphy box engraved with a landscape scene featuring a lone fisherman on a lake with two huts and a hill in the background. The back and lining are copper. Estimated to date from the early 20th century. The patina and black ink covering the interior of the lid reflect signs of use. Measures about 3” x 3” x 1 1/8.” Very good overall condition. There is one small area of tape stain on the back and side (see enlargements 4 & 6). This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
