An octagonal plate decorated with a lakeside scene with a grand pavilion and two figures enjoying the sounds of the flute, in a boat moored beneath overhanging rocks. The diaper borders are exceptional.

I have a suspicion that the plate was given a soft-paste slip before painting as it enables finer work. The attention to the detail is unusual and denotes a high quality service, an expensive item at the time. The plate was made specifically for export to the West during the Qianlong period, 18th century.

9.1/8 inches (23.2cm) diameter. One shallow chip on the back edge, otherwise perfect. On the back, some pinholes and a small glaze blemish all associated with the firing. Please study the photographs.
