These larger than usual bottles are based on the Imperial bottles made for the Chinese emperor Qianlong who reigned during the second half of the 18th century. This bottle was made in Japan and is superbly carved, as you would expect, with deep undercutting.

4.1/8 inches (10.5 cm) high. The bottle, missing its spoon, is otherwise perfect. It has some age cracks as can be seen in the photographs.

The bottle is guaranteed to have be made from elephant ivory at the end of the 19th century and as such will require a CITES certificate to be legally exported from the United Kingdom. Ivory is not an indigenous species of the UK and so it is certain that permission to export will be granted. A CITES certificate is not required for import into countries of the European Union.
