A JAPANESE ARITA BLUE & WHITE BOWL, 18TH CENTURY
A super bowl, the lobed body painted with a flowering prunus tree surrounded by repeating panels of flowers, birds, pine trees and leaping carp. The outside painted with karakusa. Within the foot-rim is a four-character Chenghua mark. The painting is exceptional. Dates from the 2nd half of the 18th century ~ 1st quarter of the 19th. 6.1/16 inches (15.4 cm) diameter, 2 inches (5.1 cm) tall. Perfect except for a small chip to the rim noted in the photographs. If you would like to see the photographs in a larger format or file size, which is with less compression, or you would like pictures of a particular detail please let me know.
