Hannya Mask Netsuke
A JAPANESE HANNYA MASK NETSUKE.

The netsuke is made from a soft wood rather like cedar. It seems that the fewest number of cuts used to form the image is the art of this style of carving. Hannya is a character from the Noh theatre representing a jealous female demon. Painted details. Almost impossible to date accurately, it looks to me like the kind of thing brought back as a novelty by a returning sailor at the beginning of the 20th century.

Good condition.

Approximately 1.3/4 inches (4.5 cm) high.

I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to the currency of your country. Payment may also be made by direct bank transfer in GBP. I am sorry but I cannot accept a cash transfer payment by Western Union as I don’t have an office nearby.
