Chinese characters cut from thin natural mother of pearl shell set flush into a black lacquered frame. The edges similarly inlaid with simple flowers and leaves. The backs are recessed to take a backing board, not present, with brass tags to secure. Altogether a striking display.

11.1/8 inches (28.2 cm) by 8.13/16 (22.3 cm) inches. The frames are in good condition but do show signs of age, some small chips to the lacquer could be repainted to great effect. Small age crack to one inside corner. Slight surface marking from use.
