| This fine Mongolian Thangka painting is a very unusual portrayal of a Bodhissatva. He is sitting on a mule, which is also quite uncommon, holding on to a silver-colored disc likely to represent the moon. Around the Bodhissatva we see various other deities on horseback, reminiscent of Lokapala, as well as several other animals and even a lion dog. Throning on top is the rain god, the blue Vajrapani, also set against a flaming aureole. The richly colored depiction is framed by a silk border adorned with stylized floral decors and a golden band with a meander pattern. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Mongolia. DATE: Late 19th century. MATERIAL: Mixed media on linen. Mounted to silk border. Silk protective cover. MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUE: Fine hand painting. CONDITION: Very good ORIGINAL as found condition with minor traces of wear, slight abrasions, minimal creases, and minor staining. The protective cover is slightly torn and stained. NO RESTORATION! SIZE: 33 x 18.4 inches. Size of the actual painting is 15.5 x 10.5 inches | ||||||||
